1Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre,
bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
2And
they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
3And they entered in, and
found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
4And it came to pass, as they were much
perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:
5And
as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?
6He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet
in Galilee,
7Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful
men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
8And they remembered his
words,
9And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the
eleven, and to all the rest.
10It was Mary Magdalene and Joanna, and Mary the
mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.
11And
their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not. (Luke 24)
36And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto
you.
37But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen
a spirit.
38And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts
arise in your hearts?
39Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle
me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
40And
when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.
41And while
they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?
42And
they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.
43And he took
it, and did eat before them.
44And he said unto them, These are the words which
I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and
in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
45Then opened he their understanding,
that they might understand the scriptures,
46And said unto them, Thus it is
written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
47And
that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
48And ye are witnesses of these things.
49And, behold,
I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
50And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and
blessed them.
51And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from
them, and carried up into heaven.
52And they worshipped him, and returned to
Jerusalem with great joy. (Luke 24)
And, in other scriptures,
62Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together
unto Pilate,
63Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was
yet alive, After three days I will rise again.
64Command therefore that the
sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people,
He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.
65Pilate
said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.
66So
they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch. (Matthew 27)
2And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came
and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
3His countenance was
like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:
4And for fear of him the keepers
did shake, and became as dead men. (Matthew 28)
10Then
the disciples went away again unto their own home.
11But Mary stood without
at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,
12And
seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
13And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away
my LORD, and I know not where they have laid him.
14And when she had thus said,
she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.
15Jesus
saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if
thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.
16Jesus
saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.
17Jesus
saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto
my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
18Mary Magdalene came
and told the disciples that she had seen the LORD, and that he had spoken these things unto her.
19Then
the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for
fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
20And
when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the LORD.
21Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
22And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive
ye the Holy Ghost:
23Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them;
and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.
24But Thomas, one of the
twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
25The other disciples
therefore said unto him, We have seen the LORD. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails,
and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
26And
after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in
the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
27Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither
thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
28And Thomas answered and said unto him, My LORD and my God.
29Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they
that have not seen, and yet have believed.
30And many other signs truly did
Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
31But
these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through
his name. (John 20)
1The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus,
of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,
2Until the day in which he was
taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:
3To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of
them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:
4And,
being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of
the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
5For John truly baptized with
water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
6When
they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
7And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons,
which the Father hath put in his own power.
8But ye shall receive power, after
that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria,
and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
9And when he had spoken these things,
while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
10And
while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
11Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which
is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. (Acts 1)
